OHCHR in Mauritania

The Office in Mauritania has a broad mandate through which it can conduct investigations into gross violations of human rights, human rights education of armed and police forces, research and analysis of human rights violations, look at rule of law issues in conflict prevention, and reinforce local organizations capacity for the promotion and protection of human rights with a community-based approach. The Office is also working on the Mauritanian specificity by engaging in a constructive dialogue with the Quranic authorities on fundamental rights. The current thematic priorities focus on conflict prevention and the promotion of economic, social and cultural rights as part of efforts to address inequalities, discrimination against women, and poverty.
