Racism is a global problem. OHCHR furthers the fight against racism on a global scale. We advise governments on racial equality policies and legislation, undertake research to better understand the magnitude and effects of racism and partner with civil society to spread the #FightRacism message to the people.
In addition, UN bodies, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), the Working Group on People of African descent and the Special Rapporteur against Racism can step in when governments don't do enough. These bodies can help ensure that States uphold their international obligations and have paved the way forward by denouncing laws and policies that are racially discriminatory.
You can support the UN's fight against racism by using the hashtag #FightRacism on 21. March - the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
